A lawsuit filed by a former teacher at Maine West and Maine South high schools has prompted a response from Maine Township High School District 207 refuting claims made in court documents.

Jannon Kirley, former teacher at Maine West and South, is suing the district for employment discrimination, age discrimination, retaliation for exercising her First Amendment right to free speech, the Daily Herald reported, and for retaliatory discharge under the Illinois Whistleblower’s Act. Additionally, Kirley's lawsuit claims she was almost run over by a car driven by the superintendent of schools.

This is the most recent in a lengthy series of complaints and claims made by Kirley, according to a public statement issued by D-207 last week, none of which were found by any investigative or adjudicating body to have any merit.

“The basis for the dismissal involved insubordinate, unprofessional conduct toward fellow staff members as well as students in violation of District 207 Board of Education directives,” D-27 stated. “Ms. Kirley exercised her right to request a hearing on her dismissal, which is in progress before a hearing officer selected through the Illinois State Board of Education.”
