Democrats Overwhelmingly Endorse Schakowsky

Veteran Congresswoman is choice of nearly all.

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) received the overwhelming endorsement for reelection to her 9th Congressional District seat Sunday from the New Trier Democratic Organization in Winnetka.

Schakowsky received 97.2 percent of the vote while Evanston teacher Simon Ribeiro got 2.8 percent.

Nearly all of New Trier Township was part of the 10th District before it was redrawn in May by the Illinois General Assembly. Now only Glencoe remains while Winnetka, Northfield, Wilmette and Kenilworth are in the 9th.

When it was time for members to argue for the endorsement in the 9th, many expressed their happiness that Schakowsky was now their voice in Congress.

“She has been our surrogate Congresswoman for so many years,” former 10thDistrict Committeeman and New Trier Township Chairman Bill Crowley said. “I am thoroughly pleased she will actually represent us.”

Schakowsky received the unanimous endorsement of the Wheeling Township Democrats Wednesday and has also gotten the nod from Evanston and Maine Townships. Niles Township does not make endorsements.

2002-2006---Jan Schakowsky endorses Rod Blagojevich for governor---raised money for his campaign through 2008---personally contributed $28,000 to his campaign fund.

April 2008---Schakowsky quoted in the Chicago Sun-Times that she and Blagojevich “have a working relationship, and we have a long-standing friendship.”---In the weeks leading up to Blagojevich’s arrest for attempting to sell Illinois’ U.S. Senate seat, Schakowsky confirmed that she spoke with the governor about the appointment and was under consideration.

Dec. 9, 2008----Jan Schakowsky, called for Illinois Governor, Rod Blagojevich, to step down and resign his position as Governor following his arrest that morning---Schakowsky then called on the Illinois State Legislature to reconvene for a special session in order to impeach the governor.

"Term Limits"--???---Schakowsky no longer has anything positive to offer her constituents of the 9th District---she's as big a problem as any why over 80% of all Americans don't trust Congress---It's time to step down Jan
