Dick's Sporting Goods has stopped selling certain kinds of semi-automatic rifles in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, CNN reported.

Dick's is a national sporting retail chain and has a store in Niles at 5601 W. Touhy Ave.

CNN reported that Dick's has removed all guns from its store nearest Newtown, Conneticut. On Friday, 26 people, including 20 children were killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting. CNN also reported that the "modern sporting rifles" page was blank on Tuesday.

The news network stated that it was unclear how long Dick's would not sell such weapons.

Among the weapons used in the shooting was a Bushmaster AR-15 Rifle. Time reported that between 2000 and 2010, 2 million AR-15 rifles were sold. The magazine reported that AR-15 rifle is a demilitarized version of the M16 and is manufactured by several companies.

Will the local stores also start pulling alcoholic beverages off the shelves every time someone is killed by a drunk driver?

When are we going to start blaming people instead of objects?

Bravo, Romeo.

They tried that once with alcohol. We all know how effective Prohibition was--in making profits for organized crime.

People need to take responsibility for themselves and their children. Banning certain items will not force such responsibility. In fact, the more taboo something is, the more attractive it is to some people. And if they want it, they'll get it--whether it's guns or drugs or prostitutes.
