Drivers: Exercise Caution on the Roads

Niles police will be out there to ensure public safety during the holidays.

The Niles Police Department asks drivers on village streets to watch their speed on residential streets.

“The maximum speed limit does not relieve the driver from the duty to decrease speed when approaching an intersection or when special hazards exist such a pedestrians or bicyclists,” Police Chief Dean Strzelecki said.

Unless otherwise posted, speed limits within the Village are 25 mph. The speed limit in the all alleys is 15 mph.

In addition, speed trailers, unmarked vehicles and the assistance of volunteers to identify speeding vehicles on residential streets will be used to help with enforcement.  Officers will be issuing warnings, citations and potentially making arrests if the actions of drivers are identified as reckless driving and endangering the public.
