Friday Is National Fry Day--As in French Fries
Do you plan to enjoy some fries on Friday? Which places in Niles and Morton Grove have the best?
Friday the 13th is allegedly an unlucky day, but if you love French fries, July 13 is your lucky day.
July 13 is National French Fry Day!
According to Tom & Eddie's, "the average American eats about 29 pounds of fries annually, an impressive statistic that proves their popularity."
Tom & Eddie's also provided this historical insight in a recent announcement on Vernon Hills Patch: "French fries did not originate in France as the name implies but in Belgium during the 1600′s. The term 'French fries' was coined in World War I by American soldiers who were introduced to them in Belgium. They should be called 'Belgium fries,' right? They were so named because Belgians speak French."

Did you ever read the book "How to Read a French Fry?" It explains the best fries are cooked in oil that contains some oil that was previously used to cook other fried potatoes. Actually that's kind of hard to explain. When you fry the fries, you save some oil (storing it properly with refrigeration) and then add it to fresh oil for the next batch of fries. I love to cook, but I don't deep fry, so I've never done this.

The absolutely BEST french fries, (or other fried potatoes for that matter), are made with duck fat.
