Man Abandons Pit Bull And Flees

He took the dog to an animal adoption agency, but they told him they could not accept it. An arrest is merely an accusation and not evidence of a conviction.

Police responded March 20 to a call from the manager of an animal adoption facility in the 7100 block of Touhy. She said a 22-year-old Park Ridge man had brought in a pit bull, which he said he found running down Milwaukee Avenue, according to the report. She told him the business is not set up for the intake of animals and told him he would have to take it to a different facility. The man said the dog was not his and he could not take it, the report indicated. The manager offered to call police to see if there were any reports of missing pit bulls, but the offender left the business, tied the dog's leash to the entrance/exit doors and left in his car. The manager was able to get his license plate number. Police took the dog to the police station and tried to phone the man who had left it, but did not reach him. Park Ridge police went to his last known address and left a note asking him to call them.

Kyle Hilbert, 29, of Northbrook, was charged with a Class 3 felony count of retail theft March 20 just after 1 p.m. A loss prevention agent for a department store in Golf Mill Shopping Center told police he had watched as Hilbert had been using some sort of tool to cut tags off merchandise (jeans), according to the report, and then watched as Hilbert took three tag-less pairs of jeans and "returned" them for a store credit of $99.01.

The security agent tried to stop Hilbert, but he ran north through the parking lot and then north across Golf Road. A police officer spotted a man fitting Hilbert's description on the north side of Golf Road and stopped and questioned him, the report indicated. He said he had been inside the store in question and was "about to do something stupid" but then decided not to. The officer conducted a protective pat-down since, according to the report, Hilbert was fidgeting. The officer discovered a metal wire cutting tool and a store return receipt for a store credit for $99.01, which the Golf Mill store had issued minutes earlier. Store personnel made a positive identification of him as the offender, police said. A Cook County assistant state's attorney approved a felony charge based on a previous retail theft conviction. His court date is April 1 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
