Nathaniel Huston, 26, of Elmwood Park, was charged Feb. 27 with battery and violation of an order of protection, after an incident in parking lot of a store in the 6100 block of Touhy Avenue just after 5:15 p.m.
He approached his ex-girlfriend, a 25-year-old Chicago woman with whom he has two children, running toward her in a threatening manner, according to the police report, and she ran and he chased her through the parking lot. The woman's current boyfriend tried to run to her aid and Huston grabbed him and wrestled him to the ground, the report indicated. The Waukegan man said he was in fear of harm for himself and a witness.
When police arrived, both combatants were standing near their respective vehicles, and they said Huston had abrasions on his hands, arms and knees. According to the report, both parties said there had been a fight, but gave different versions of the events. Huston said he had been called to the scene to give the woman a ride and pick up his children. The 32-year-old man said Huston had been stalking the woman and was seen circling the parking lot several times in his car before the woman came out of the store.
Police took Huston into custody and said a search of his vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia, specifically a glass pipe used to smoke cannabis. He was booked and processed pending his court date.
Because the children were present and unattended during the commission of a crime, police notified the Department of Children and Family Services.
His court date is March 12 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.
$900 taken from school cafeteria office
On Feb. 27, a woman who works at a high school in the 7600 block of Dempster reported that while working, she discovered someone had removed a zippered bag containing about $900 cash from the cafeteria office. An investigation is pending.
