After getting through most of the winter season thus far with barely a dusting of snow, northern Illinois is forecast to see its second moderate accumulation within the span of a week.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 10 p.m. today until noon Monday due to an Alberta Clipper system that is expected to bring snow across northeast Illinois. The National Weather Service in Chicago says between 3 and 5 inches of snow could fall "along and north of a line from just north of Rockford to Chicago to Valparaiso."

Snowfall rates could reach an inch per hour at times, according to the National Weather Service. The most intense snowfall is expected to fall between 3 and 8 a.m. There could also be some lake-effect snowfall on Monday.
