Morton Grove Getting New Electric Company

Unless Morton Grove residents opt out, the village-wide switch to an alternative energy provider (not Com Ed) will start next week. Lower bills should arrive in September.

Back in March, Morton Grove residents had a opportunity to vote on a referendum that asked whether they would be in favor of switching their electrical service to another provider besides Com Ed in order to save money.

They voted in favor, and the village was able to get a competitive rate from a company called FirstEnergy Solutions. In late May, Ryan Horne, Morton Grove village administrator, estimated the average household would save $350 annually on its electric bills.

Individual residents have the opportunity to opt out and get their electrical service from Com Ed or another provider. But for those who don't--who will likely be the majority--the switch to FirstEnergy will start next week, and residents will likely see lower electric bills in September, according to the Morton Grove Champion.
