Niles Police Blotter: Man Makes Off With Fish

The following information was provided by the Niles Police Department. An arrest is merely an accusation and does not indicate a conviction.

Ruben Perez, 30, of Des Plaines was charged with retail theft Dec. 18 after police found two bags of fish under his jacket.

Niles police were called to a store in the 8900 block of Milwaukee Avenue after two individuals with open alcohol were asked to leave the store, police reports state. When officers arrived they found Perez walking in the parking lot and made contact with him.

Police reports state that the officer noticed that it looked like Perez was holding something. When the officer removed Perez's hands from his jacket, two bags of fish fell out. The bags of fish were valued at $20.

Perez also was arrested under a warrant for felony DUI.

I hope it was worth it to him. A $20.00 bag of fish? Come on.
