Parents Clash Over Baby Son's Custody
The mother reported the one-year-old missing after the father failed to return him. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
In a domestic dispute, a 19-year-old Chicago woman reported that her baby's father picked up the baby to spend time with him on the weekend, and was supposed to return him Dec. 2. According to the report, the father did not return the child, so the woman went to police. The man did not answer phone calls. On Dec. 5, police went to the man's residence on Heathwood Circle in Niles and he told them he was filling out paperwork to apply for custody, and thought he could keep the child until custody was resolved. Police contacted the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), which said that unless custody has been granted to the father, the child goes to the mother by default. Police returned the child to the mother and advised both parties to call their lawyers.
