National Night Out brought people together in their communities for fun and activities, designed to help make areas safer for all. The events occurred across the suburbs and in Niles on Aug. 7.

The Niles Police Department said the program aims to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; support local anti-crime programs; and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. It sends a clear message to criminals to them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
