The victim's daughter discovered her elderly mother had been writing too many checks to the caregiver; they totaled $24,000 over six months. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.
In a financial exploitation of the elderly case, the daughter of a 94-year-old woman who lives in the 8900 block of Golf Road called police Nov. 9. The daughter, who has power of attorney for her mother, was looking at the mother's bank statements and discovered that the mother had been writing too many checks to the caregiver, police said.
There were $24,000 in excess payments to the caregiver since May, according to the report. The daughter told police she was going to terminate the caregiver's employment and ask the bank to void any future payments. Niles police contacted elder abuse representatives, who said they would investigate. The daughter asked for followup from Niles police and said she would sign complaints against the offender.
Video Games vs. Getting a Job
Police responded to an apartment in the 8800 block of Oriole Nov. 11 just before 10 p.m. and found a 47-year-old woman and her son engaged in a verbal dispute about the son getting a job. She said the son plays video games all day, and the victim wanted advice on how to get him to stop, according to the report. The son agreed to leave for the night and resolve the issue at a later date. Police issued domestic violence forms.
Information is taken from Niles Police Department reports.

Why wasn't the daughter the one writing checks to the caregiver?
