Seniors Gear Up For Saturday's Rummage Sale, Lunch
Event will take place indoors at Niles Senior Center.
Have you been dreaming of a set of golf clubs? Hankering for housewares? Growing a desire for tomato plants? Or maybe you just want a nice $2 hot dog lunch.
Those things and more can be found at the Niles Senior Center rummage sale Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the center, located in the same building as the Niles Family Fitness Center in Civic Center Plaza, at the southeast corner of Waukegan Road and Oakton, Niles.
So far, said Kathlyn Williams of the Senior Center's staff, there are 48 people who have signed up for tables at which to sell things.
"The seniors are working their own tables. They bring and sell their own stuff," she said.
The Senior Center also has its own table, and proceeds are split between the Niles Food Pantry and the American Cancer Society.
"We have everything," Williams said. "Books, clothing, games, knickknacks, craft supplies, household items, pots, pans, silverware."
One man comes every year to sell tomato plants, which are a hit, she said. He also sells herbs, such as basil and parsley.
Other items for sale include: sporting equipment, golf clubs, baseball bats, posters, vases, jewelry, toys and picture frames.
The Senior Center will also offer a hot dog lunch, including chips, a drink and cookies, for $2.
