Snowless Streak Slated to End This Week

A storm system may dump 6 to 12 inches of snow on the Midwest this Thursday, reports indicate.

It's time to get those shovels ready.

Our snow-less streak is expected to end Thursday with a storm that could drop six to 12 inches of snow on the Midwest, according to the Chicago Tribune.

It's unclear at this point which areas will see the most snow but the story indicates that "current models suggest the heaviest snowfall will land to the west of Chicago, from northern Missouri through eastern Iowa and up into Wisconsin."

Experts are predicting anywhere from one to "several" inches.

Chicago has an 80 percent chance of flurries—especially after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Snow could continue into the night and temperatures may dip as low as 24 degrees.

The Tribune reports:

Depending on the storm's path, Chicago could get several inches or less than an inch, but it appears the city will get at least the tenth of an inch needed to record the season's first measurable snowfall.

On Sunday, the city surpassed the record for latest first measurable snowfall, according to the NWS. The old record was set on Dec. 16, 1965.

From a reader on the Libertyville Patch Facebook page: "My snow blower is tuned up and ready to roll, got fresh gas, new boots, hats, gloves and snow mobile pants. Bring it on!!!"

I couldn't care less if we got zero snow this year. The only drawback is that the alarmists will be all in a tizzy and going nuts about how man is changing the climate on our earth that is millions of years old. Never mind the snowstorms in Arizona or how eastern Europe was totally slammed last winter. All that matters is what the weather is now.

Wait, what happened to Bree? I guess he probably saw the forecast and pulled his comment. I think Lake Michigan is too warm to have a major storm in this area. Weather and bartending go hand in hand.

I know my fellow Chicagoans will ask me to move to Canada, but I want some snow! I miss ice skating, and skiing at the little hills in Wisconsin, and making snow angels. :( Hopefully soon we'll have some snow!

Well, it's snowing up in Crystal Lake. To all you folks calling for rain please remember that some Patch towns are further north and closer to the Wisconsin border. When you get rain, we often get snow.

Crystal lake? Shouldn't you be monitoring Rockford patch? Believe me, your in a better, happier place. If you want to argue about snow, Im in! Lake Michigan water temps only effect within a 3-5 mile off shore in my experience. Note: Moe is not a meteorologist, he is merely a man who had lived on the north shore for 32 years and has been in "Snowbiz" for 22 years. His views on snowfalls and/or other winter weather conditions shouldn't be taken seriously. Never be afraid to form your own opinion, and never let your babies grow up to be Cowboys!

? Moe, you lost me. We had several comments the other day that said it will never snow - only rain. So I was letting everyone know we have snowflakes falling today in the far northwest suburbs.....and we don't have a Rockford Patch - yet :)

Steph, if i can call you that, as mentioned in an earlier comment, that Bree guy ranted that it was going to rain, no snow, and then proceeded to insult others. Then probably saw the weather forcast and deleted his comments so he didn't look stupid. Oops, I didnt mean to refer to Bree as looking stupid. I think I liked Bree's comments better when I thought he was a women.
Anywho, I Also live in the NW suburbs and they don't understand about the "snow belt" that we live in. In fact, if you live west of waukegan rd, your from Gurnee, as far as North Shore is concerned. I just tell people I'm from Gurnee. Saves time.

they deleted Bree's comments because they didn't like him using their little P in his profile. it's got nothing to do with anybody bailing on their comments.

Yesterday, I mistakenly yelled 'squirrel' and Bree and Stevie J both took off running....Not sure if it is a coincidence or not, but my Patch experience seems to have improved since the scampering.
