Snowstorm Update: How Much Snow Fell in Northern Illinois?

Winter Storm Saturn was expected to dump 6-10 inches of snow across northern Illinois.

Update, 11:20 p.m.: Here's a look at more snowfall totals.

  • Barrington, 6.7 inches, 11 p.m.
  • Northbrook, 6.2 inches, 10:15 p.m.
  • Joliet, 8.7 inches, 9:50 p.m.
  • Lake Bluff, 6.1 inches, 9:30 p.m.
  • Homewood, 9 inches, 9:15 p.m.
  • O'Hare Airport, 9.1 inches, 9 p.m.

Editor's Note: I wanted to note that not all towns have totals on the National Weather Service website. The National Weather Service relies on snowfall reports (emailed, phoned in or via Facebook) from residents and observers. So, sadly, I can only provide totals for the Patch communities included in the reports they've received. I often include other non-Patch communities just to offer a look at other regional totals.

I'm curious who reported these totals. I live in Cary and I know that I cleared at least 7-8" of snow from my driveway and walks yesterday.

We live in Chicago. It is winter time. Snow is expected. Since when does a little snow deserve a name? If we get a little rain in the Spring, are we going to give it a name? It all seems a little silly to me.
BTW This post will show reject because I am sending it from my mobile.

I had the same reaction when I heard about the snowstorm names, but now that it's been started, we can't leave the poor rain out! What would be some good rainstorm names? Rainstorm Raina? Thunderous Thor?

Thanks Cristel. I am glad I am not the only one to see how ridiculous this is.
I like your names for the first rain of the Spring & thunderstorm of the summer.
