Niles has more public transportation than many suburbs. There are Pace bus routes on portions of Dempster, Touhy, Oakton, Howard and Greenwood .

However, unlike neighbors Morton Grove and Park Ridge, which have their own Metra stations, Niles has no direct train downtown. The village hopes to get an express bus, called Arterial Rapid Transit service, from Pace, the suburban bus service, someday. 

Transportation is also a key part of the Niles 2030 Comprehensive Plan, the document the village adopted about a year ago to plan its development and future. 

Because transportation is so important, the village of Niles is asking people who live, work and shop in Niles to take a brief Regional Transportation Authority survey about public transportation.  Take the survey.  The deadline is Friday, Feb. 1.

Of course, the village also has the Niles Courtesy Bus, sometimes called the Niles Free Bus. Last fall, the village board decided to reduce service on the Free Bus. While it discussed implementing fares, it has not done so.
