Traffic Stop Yields Drugs

Police also found drug paraphernalia. Arrest information is supplied by the Niles Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Zoubir Bachir, 24, of West Irving Park Road, Chicago, was charged with Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance on Jan. 26 at about 10:20 p.m. after an officer saw him driving on Dempster Street in a white Lexus without its headlights on, police said, and stopped him.

Police observed all the windows were rolled down even though it was 38 degrees outside, and noticed a strong odor of cannabis coming from the passenger compartment, they said. After Bachir and his 24-year-old female passenger stepped out of the car, police searched it and found two prescription bottles: one of Hydrocodone/APAP, and one of Clonazepam, as well as drug paraphernalia used to grind cannabis, according to the report.

Bachir's court date is Feb. 29 at the Skokie branch of the Cook County Courts.

Stolen auto recovered

A police officer on patrol in the Golf Mill Shopping Center parking lot observed a car parked improperly across two spaces and checked its registration. Chicago police verified that the car had been stolen on Jan. 19. Police checked the unlocked vehicle and said they found 16 hypodermic syringes, a small amount of suspect heroin, a video game console and a mobile telephone. The officer contacted the victim/owner, who said the items were not his, according to the report. Police removed and inventoried the items.

Information is taken from Niles Police Department reports.
