Woman Charged With Using Child To Help Steal

Police said she handed items to her 12-year-old, who placed them in a bag. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of conviction. Information supplied by the Niles Police Department.

Maria Pineda-Bernal, 38, of North Kenmore Avenue, Chicago, was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and retail theft on May 17 just before 6:15 p.m. Police said a security agent observed her selecting children's clothes and shoes at a retail store at Golf Mill Shopping Center and handing them to her 12-year-old daughter. The 12-year-old placed them into a store bag the offender had brought with them, according to the report. After the two of them exited the store, security agents stopped them, police said. Police turned the girl over to her father. Pineda- Bernal's court date is June 20 at the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

After swerving, man charged with DUI

Kevin Wyse, 43, of North Kirby Street, Chicago, was charged with DUI after police said they observed him swerving in traffic in the 7600 block of Milwaukee Avenue on May 18, just before 3 a.m. Police said the officer smelled alcohol on Wyse's breath and that he indicated he had had two beers earlier in the evening. His court date is June 22.
