The nominees for Patch Athlete of the Week, Dec. 12 - Dec. 18:
Jacqui Grant, junior, girls basketball, Maine South – Grant had 17 points and 10 rebounds against CSL South-leading Glenbrook South in a 45-39 victory last week. The win over the previously undefeated Titans vaulted the Hawks into a tie for the CSL South lead.
Vaughn Monreal-Berner, junior, wrestling, Niles West – Monreal-Berner took home the title in the 182-pound weight class at the Lake Park Ralph W. Krupke Classic last weekend. The Niles West junior is now 17-3 on the season and is looking to get to the state championships after getting to sectionals last year.
Lena Munzer, junior, girls basketball, Highland Park – Munzer reached the 1,000-point mark for her career on Dec. 10, scoring 26 points in a 56-37 win against Rockford Auburn. Munzer has led Highland Park to a 7-7 record on the season.
Sam Ainsworth, senior, basketball center, Fenwick – Ainsworth scored a career-high 22 points in the Friars’ 62-53 victory over Gordon Tech at home on Dec. 16. The 6-foot-5 senior center was 7 of 11 from the field and Fenwick is now 3-3 on the season with a 1-2 record in the Chicago Catholic League North
Michelle Ricolcol, senior, girls basketball, Loyola Academy – Ricolcol scored 14 points – all in the second half – to lead the Ramblers to a 47-40 win over St. Ignatius on Dec. 16. Loyola Academy is 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the Girls Catholic Athletic Conference.
