Niles West, Niles North Closed Thursday

Here's your Today in Niles and Morton Grove report for Thursday, Sept. 5. Many Jewish families in the area are observing Rosh Hashanah.



Here's what's happening in Niles and Morton Grove for Thursday, Sept. 5.


  • Niles West and Niles North High Schools, as well as Skokie-Morton Grove District 69 elementary schools, are closed. Many Jewish families are observing Rosh Hashanah today. 
  • Do your kids want to be firefighters? They can, for a little while, at "Captain Bill Presents: Safe In Your Home" at the Morton Grove Public Library at 4 p.m., for grades 2 through 6. If this is the Captain Bill we're thinking of, he's a real captain. 
  • Two local teams face off in boys golf at 4 p.m.: It's Maine East v. Northridge Prep. 
  • Garbage pickup in Niles is delayed one day due to the Labor Day holiday. If you normally have Thursday pickup, it will be Friday. For a normal Friday pickup, it will be Saturday.
  • Looking ahead: the Niles Teen Center has movie night tomorrow, Friday Sept. 6.
