St. John Brebeuf Community Picnic Deemed Successful

As part of its 60th anniversary celebration, the popular St. John Brebeuf parish of Niles held its annual picnic in St. Mary Woods. It is the first time in about 20 years the event was held in a wooded grove.

St. John Brebeuf's “Olde Fashioned Parish Picnic” on July 21, began with a mass said by Pastor Michael Meany.

The Niles-based parish held the event in St. Paul Woods  in Morton Grove. The event was open to the entire community as part of the 60th anniversary celebration of the church which was established in 1953.

Games and activities for both children and adults included pony rides, a petting zoo, camel rides, face painting, an egg toss, bingo, Bozo buckets, a fish pond, and bean bag toss.

Affording an opportunity to remember the past and celebrate the present while looking forward to the future, the picnic recalls parish carnivals that were held in the 1950s. For further information on all SJB communitywide activities, call 847-966-8145.
