STATE REPRESENTATIVE CANDIDATE KHAN CONCLUDES TOUR OF DISTRICT 207 HIGH SCHOOLS

CANDIDATE MO KHAN MEETS GOVERNMENT STUDENTS AT MAINE WEST

(Des Plaines, IL) – Today, Mo Khan, candidate for State Representative from Illinois’ 20th District, met with teachers and students at Maine West High School to conclude a school tour of all the District 207 High Schools.

Khan shared with students the experiences that inspired him to seek office.  As both a travelling aide to Hillary Clinton during her 2008 Presidential Campaign and special assistant to Alexi Giannoulias during the 2010 U.S. Senate Campaign, Khan saw firsthand how elected officials have the ability to positively impact the lives of their constituents.  “Senator Clinton emphasized the need to really listen to people and hear their stories – to learn what they truly want from their representatives,” Khan reflects.

Khan also led a discussion on the current state of Illinois.  While touching on a variety of topics, he emphasized the importance of positioning today’s students for the economy of the future.  “The economic landscape is changing as we speak – I get that and we all see it.  It gives us an opportunity to make high unemployment rates in Illinois a thing of the past, but only if we equip our residents with the necessary skills – I’m committed to doing just that,” Khan states.

Khan’s campaign has been stressing the necessity of cost-effective initiatives that better prepare students for the job market.  Khan is an advocate for efficiently investing in education and increasing the speed at which technology is integrated into local schools.  “Chicago has a booming tech sector that will create many new jobs and my focus is to ensure that Illinois residents are, by far, the best candidates for those jobs,” Khan says.  “This is a campaign priority.”

Having met with educators and students from all three District 207 High Schools, Khan says, “Meeting with all the students and teachers was great.  It is clear that the future is bright –there’s so much talent in this area.  We just need to make sure that we are doing everything we can to give our residents the tools to succeed.”

Khan is a 2003 graduate of Maine South High School, received an accounting degree from the University of Iowa in 2007 and is in the process of earning a law degree from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.  He has previously served as a traveling aide to Hillary Clinton during her 2008 Presidential Campaign and as special assistant to Alexi Giannoulias during the 2010 U.S. Senate Campaign.
