Summit outreach programs offer fun and retirement facts for seniors
Eight senior clubs from area Catholic churches are planning a big get-together next month. A fun networking party sponsored by The Summit of Uptown brings entertainer Tom Stanfield to the group on Thursday, July 10, at 1:30 at Immaculate Conception, 7211 W. Talcott, Chicago.
Those who attend will be eligible to win Chicago Cubs tickets.
Participating parishes include St. John Brebeuf, Immaculate Conception, Queen of All Saints, St. Juliana, St. Monica, St. Tarcissus, St. Thecla, and St. Cornelius.
Stanfield, who has headlined at the Abbey in Lake Geneva for the past 30 years, plays the electric keyboard and a trumpet or flugelhorn. As he performs audience requests, he also encourages people to sing along, dance or just observe the chicken dance, hokey pokey and such classics as “Rock Around the Clock,” and “Hound Dog.”
“We have found this to be a fun way to get to know area seniors as they get to know The Summit of Uptown and have a good time while we’re at it,” said Irene Sawka, administrator at the independent and assisted living facility that has been providing quality services for seniors for more than 30 years. “When we visited St. John Brebeuf in Niles earlier this month, about 50 seniors had the chance to ask questions of us after lunch. They were also invited to come and see The Summit for themselves and enjoy another free program there.”
These outreach programs are just one example of the variety of programs and activities presented by The Summit of Uptown, 10 N. Summit, Park Ridge. When programs are held at The Summit, guests are encouraged to arrive early or stay late for tours of the newly renovated retirement community. Parking is always available in the City’s central parking lot and the Uptown lot across the street.
