Air Quality Alert Declared for Niles and Morton Grove

Cook County is under a air quality alert through Tuesday night, according to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Niles and Morton Grove — along with the rest of Cook, Lake, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Grundy, McHenry and Will County — are under an air quality alert from Monday night through Tuesday night, according to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA). 

The IEPA has declared an Air Pollution Action Day for Tues. August 20 for the Greater Chicago Metropolitan area. An Action Day is declared when the weather conditions can cause widespread ozone and/or particulate levels expected to be at or above the unhealthy air quality level for sensitive groups. 

"Active children and adults, and especially people with pulmonary or respiratory disease such as asthma, should limit prolonged outdoor activity," a notice on Accuweather states

Residents and businesses in the affected area are being asked by the IEPA to take steps to reduce contributions to air pollution, such as taking public transportation and reducing energy usage. More information on what you can do to reduce contributions is available here
