Apples Are In At The Market

This week at the will be a great week for all things autumn. Apples, squash, pumpkins and gourds are ready for picking and our farmers will be bringing them to you from their farms in Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin. A perfect time of year to stock up on foods that store well over most of the winter and bring you back to the smells and tasted of this community market.

Our free range and grass fed beef, pork, chicken and egg farm will be available to take CSA orders for the winter. What is a CSA? The Local Harvest explains it best.

"Over the last 20 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season."

In the case of Benhart Farm, they will offer quarter to full shares for a range of prices. The boxes of meat will be delivered to a drop spot in Morton Grove once a month over the winter. A great way to continue to enjoy the market all year long!

Another way to continue to enjoy the market is at the first Winter Market Saturday, Dec. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Civic Center in Morton Grove. Vendor applications are now being accepted, interested farmers and vendors should send applications to AllManagers@MGFarmersMarket.com
