Churches Hold Blessing of the Animals

In this legacy of St. Francis of Asissi, churches around the area held pet blessings.

Many beautiful legends about the Catholic saint St. Francis of Asissi tell of his respect for and rapport with members of the animal world.

In honor of St. Francis' feast day Oct. 4, many churches in the area held pet blessings Saturday.

Thanks to Bart McGuinn for submitting this photo of Rev. Piotr Rapcia blessing McGuinn's two golden retrievers, held on a leash by McGuinn's wife Caryn, at St. John Brebeuf church in Niles.

The blond dog is Brett and the reddish one, five months, jumping in the air, is Finn.

Any way for us to get back to Nature's creatures is fantastic in my book. Sometimes we forget our dependence on the blessings of the earth.
