The CTA’s annual holiday train, bedecked with blinking lights, a jolly Santa and cheerful elves passing out candy canes is on the Brown Line through Saturday.

It comes to the CTA Blue Line, which Niles and Morton Grove residents can ride to downtown Chicago, on Dec. 12 to 14.

There may be no greater joy for a CTA commuter than to be surprised by the holiday train pulling into the station, as happened to me today. But for those who like to plan our their transit festiveness, here’s the CTA’s full holiday train schedule.

To get to the CTA Blue Line train, drive to the Cumberland station (on Cumberland just south of Higgins on the Park Ridge-Chicago border) and pay $5 to park in the parking garage, which you enter from the southbound lanes of Cumberland (stay to the right).

You can also take a Pace bus south on Milwaukee Avenue to the CTA's Jefferson Park station and board the blue line there.
