Find A Health and Fitness Club

From basic cardio machines to pools and rock-climbing walls, Niles offers many choices.

Ready to get toned for the day spring comes and we all take off our shapeless parkas? 

Niles Patch will soon launch a column about local fitness choices.  In the meantime, here are a few to get you started:

  • The Leaning Tower YMCA (6300 West Touhy, Niles) boasts an outdoor running track, two indoor pools, handball/racquetball courts and a fitness center with treadmills, stationary bikes and cross training machines. Group exercise classes include Spin, Zumba, Cardio, AB Attack, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi, Deep Water Aerobics, Aqua Zumba and Aqua Pilates. The Leaning Tower YMCA also offers classes designed for active older adults, swimming lessons, youth sports programs, triathlon training, personal trainers and childcare.  An adult would pay a $48 joiner fee and $48 per month to become a member of the YMCA.  The cost for a youth (19 and younger) is $24 per month and a $24 joiner fee. Sign up by January 31 and the YMCA will waive the joiner fee.
  • The Niles Park District offers a fitness membership good at both the Tam Tennis Club (7686 North Caldwell, Niles) and the Golf View Recreation Center (7800 North Caldwell, Niles).  The Tam Tennis Club features eight indoor tennis courts, a racquetball court, aerobic room and fitness equipment.  They offer tennis lessons, permanent court time, league play and group exercise classes.  The Recreation Center has a track which anyone can use at no charge. They also boast a fitness room featuring state of the art equipment. Fitness memberships cost $240 per year for residents 14-17, $285 for residents 18-61 and $155 for residents 62 and older.
  • The Niles Family Fitness Center (987 Civic Center Drive) has an indoor track, fitness equipment, lap pool and a zero depth pool with a 100 foot water slide. Group exercise classes include Body Flex, Cardio, Dance Aerobics, Turbo Kick, Yoga, Zumba, Pilates and Aqua. They also have swim lessons, classes for children, personal trainers and childcare. An adult living in Niles pays $32 per month for membership (non-resident $43).  A youth from Niles (14-18) pays $19 per month (non-resident $25).
  • Cardinal Fitness (8237 W. Golf Road, Niles and 672 Northwest Highway, Park Ridge) has cardio equipment and weights, but no pool or group exercise classes. They have memberships starting at $19.95 per month. On their website there is a coupon for a $10 joiner fee (a 90% savings). Showers and locker rooms available. 
  • Looking for a place to exercise in the middle of the night? X Sport Fitness (9210 North Milwaukee Road, Niles) is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.They have cardio and strength training machines, a lap pool, rock climbing wall, basketball court, cycle, Pilates and yoga classes and personal trainers. There is a children's play area with television monitors so you can watch the kids while you exercise. Memberships start at $19.95 per month.
