Fourteen Receive 'Roses' Awards At Gala Event

Loud applause greets winners, who have given above and beyond to Niles community.

Every town has people that work hard, volunteer and put in extra effort to help neighbors and friends.

In most towns, these people are pretty much ignored.

However, the Niles Chamber of Commerce hosted a gala social event Saturday evening, the Niles Night of Roses, to honor these beyond-the-call-of-duty  contributors.

The Chamber invited community members to nominate people for the awards, and organized committees to manage the awards, the scholarships and running the event itself. With about 375 people attending, it was a huge effort.

After dinner was served at the event, Chamber representatives introduced each winner and presented him or her with the award. The awardees then made a few remarks.

Find out who they were, what they said and what was said about them in the photo gallery.

Some Niles residents call the Niles Night of Roses, held Saturday at White Eagle Banquets, the village's biggest social event.

To other, it gives the Niles Chamber of Commerce, which puts it on, an opportunity for members to network, socialize and hand out scholarships

I was finding that we would get a lot of people guessing forRead More some restaurants (usually when there was a payoff of free pizza), and not very many people entering for other restaurants. Do you think we should bring them back? I'm open to people's opinions. --Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, I thought it would be great if we brought it back. For me personally, whenever I wouldRead More seed the contest on my Twitter timeline, I would immediately go to the site. And if there is an offer of free food even better. It does not even necessarily be a restaurant as it can also be any other type of business, i.e., bakery, retail, gym, car services, etc.
