Girardi Residence, 1040 Ashland, Wilmette

The front is a cottage garden style with a mix of roses, perennials and annuals.  The parkway has beds cut into it which feature daylillies, shade plants and roses.  A climbing rose covers the arbor at the entrance.   Formerly a shady garden, the death of an ash tree this spring allowed the introduction of sun-loving plants.  There are roses, foxgloves, delphiniums and many lillies with annuals for extra color.  A curving brick path takes you past the bench by the bird feeder and through the gate into the back yard.  A wisteria covered pergola shades a seating area.  There is no lawn in the back; just vegetables and shrubs in a kitchen garden style.  All of the vegetables, annuals and some perennials are started from seed each year.  Heirloom plants are featured, especially peppers, eggplants, tomatoes and cabbages.  This garden shows vegetable growing can be attractive as well as delicious.

Gernady Residence, 6509 Palma Lane, Morton Grove

Their garden is a work in progress with flowers in bloom from March to November. It Includes perennials,  annuals, roses, vines, hostas, hanging baskets, flowering bushes and fruit trees, blueberries and even a potted tomato tree. Garden critters and bird houses everywhere add to the charm.  Everything is done by the owners, from brick edging and tree trimming to construction of the glass house.  A never ending work of love.

Solomon Residence, 620 Carriage Way, Deerfield

Theirs is a garden with morning sun and afternoon shade.  It thus lends itself to growing hostas, coleus, ferns and caladiums.  Hydrangeas also like this lighting.  In our garden there 230 varities of hostas.  Most have reached their mature stage.  Because of the good rains they are in the best shape ever.  There is a path that wends its way through the entire back yard as there is no lawn.  Scattered about are annuals and perennials.  Hostas are also located in the front of the house and along the drive.
