Get Out: Art, Music and Legopalooza

Wondering what to do this weekend? We've got the inside scoop.

When/Where: Thursday, Aug. 4 through Sunday, Aug. 7; in Northbrook
Why Go: Festival-goers can enjoy live music, carnival rides, kids’ games and plenty of food from local businesses. There will be also be pony rides, a magician, bocce ball, a raffle and grand prize winner announced on Sunday. If you visit the festival on Saturday, stop by the kids' games area between 2-9 p.m. and say hello to Northbrook Patch! We'll be there handing out balloons and pens and hope to see as many new faces as possible.
Pricing: Proceeds from raffle tickets ($20 and up) benefit the Northbrook Civic Foundation, an all-volunteer organization that supports the library, local schools, scholarships, parks and several community groups in the area.

Movies In The Park: The Wizard Of Oz
When/Where:  Friday, August 5 at 7 p.m. at , 2200 Lee St., Des Plaines.
Why Go: Duh...it’s The Wizard Of Oz, the most awesome, amazing movie ever. How often do you have the chance to see “Lions and Tigers and Bears! Oh my!” on the big screen? This is a classic that the whole family can enjoy. Just beware of those Flying Monkeys and watch out for the Wicked Witch of The East and her creepy striped socks. Did we mention that there are prizes for kids in the best Wizard of Oz themed costumes?

Seussical, The Musical
When/Where: Fridays and Saturdays from July 22 to August 7 at 8 p.m. at the Prairie Lakes Community Center; 515 E Thacker St, Des Plaines.
Why Go: The kids will love seeing a play that features many of the Dr. Seuss characters.
Pricing: $14 adults; $11 children, students, and seniors

Starlight Theatre Presents: Blue Grass Night
When/Where:
Friday Aug. 5, 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., at the Wallace Bowl in Gillson Park in Wilmette
Why Go: Want to hear some Blue Grass with an attitude for free? Better yet, want to hear the jams underneath the summer stars? Then check out Special Consensus’ performance as part of Wilmette Park District and Startlight Theatre’s summer series of outdoor entertainment.

Spilled Ink: A Creative Writing Workshop for grades 3-5  When/Where: Saturday Aug. 6, 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Morton Grove Public Library, 6140 Lincoln Ave.

Why Go: Kids are invited to experiment in using theater games and activities to inspire your writing. Learn how to move like a monster, feel like a lizard, and dream like a giant and then write all about it in a fabulous story you can share.

When/Where: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, and Sunday, Aug. 7; The Glen, 1800 Patriot Blvd, Glenview
Why Go: Check out ceramics, fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, metal, mixed media, paintings, drawing and photography at this prestigious art show. Kids can get in on the action with an art scavenger hunt.

LegoLand Discovery Center Presents: Legopalooza      When/Where: Saturday Aug. 6., ages 4-7 from 2-3 p.m. and ages 7-12 from 3-4 p.m. at the Morton Grove Public Library, 6140 Lincoln Ave.

Why Go: Who can pass up a Lego extravaganza? Legoland’s Master Builders will be on hand for workshops in building small models, a tall tower and a throne and bridge. Or strike out on your own and build from your own imagination.
