Why Go: Tolkien’s tale still fascinates.
Pricing: $10 adults, $5 students.

‘Once Upon A Mattress’
Where/When: Maine South High School, 1111 S. Dee Rd., Park Ridge, Friday April 29 and Saturday April 30 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday May 1 at 1 p.m.
Why Go: It’s the tale of the princess and the pea, only better and with music.
Pricing: $10.

Medication TakeBack Day
Where/When: Saturday April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Niles Police Station (7000 W. Touhy) as well as the Des Plaines and Park Ridge police stations.  
Why Go: Protect the water supply (as well as experimenting kids) by disposing of unwanted prescription and over the counter medications.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: Saturday April 30, 2011, Noon to 1:30 p.m. Fairway Banquets, 6676 W. Howard St., Niles.
Why Go: Dress up and enjoy tea, punch, sandwiches and cookies with Mom or Grandma.
Pricing: $25-$30; $10 per additional individual.

Morton Grove Public Library’s Spring Blast
Where/When: Morton Grove Public Library, Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Why Go: The fourth annual bash includes everything from scavenger hunts to the “Crazy Caterpillar Wind Tunnel,” and will certainly get you revved up for the spring season.
Pricing: Free

Rummage Sale
Where/When: Niles Senior Center, Civic Center Plaza (southeast corner of Waukegan Road and Oakton Street), Niles. Saturday April 30, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Why Go: Find a huge selection of stuff and enjoy a $2 hot dog lunch with chips, drink and cookie.
Pricing: Free to attend.


Where/When: MCC Full Time School, 8601 Menard Ave., on ASaturday APril 30 at 11 a.m.
Why Go: A District 219 native, Rohina Malik, is performing an interfaith play about five Muslim women in a post 9/11 world.
Pricing: Open to women only; tickets for early registration are $7 and at door tickets are $10. You can buy tickets at here.

Touch a Truck Family Festival
Where/When: Fields Chrysler Jeep Dodge, 670 Frontage Road, Northfield, Sunday May 1, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. (847) 832-6600.
Why Go: Kids can sit in or touch more than 25 full-sized vehicles, including a UPS truck, a Chicago trolley and construction equipment.
Pricing: $25 per family of up to six people; $15 additional for 10 a.m. VIP access.
