Why Go: It supports the community, it fills your fridge with goodies, and the prices are affordable.
Price: Free admission

Family Golf Nights
When/Where: Sunday, June 19 and every Sunday starting at 4:30 p.m., Tam O’Shanter Golf Course, 6700 W. Howard St., Niles.
Why Go: Kids can play junior tees on the golf course so beginners of all skill levels can golf and keep score.
Price: Two kids age 17 and under free with paying adult.

Custer’s Last Stand Festival of the Arts
When/Where: Saturday and Sunday June 18 and 19, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Chicago and Main Streets in Evanston.
Why Go: Arts, crafts, antiques, Green Fair, Jazz, Show and Kids’ stages, food, Professor Theophilis Lemming Medicine Show.
Pricing: $1 suggested donation.

Stairway to Heaven
When/Where: Saturday, June 18 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights
Why Go: Galina Dance Studio, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in Des Plaines this year, is holding their annual recital. Come out and show support to these talented and inspired artists.
Price: $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

Why Go: Bring the kids to hear the author of the popular Good Night, Good Knight! books share her writing experiences.

Father’s Day Memory Book
When/Where: Thursday June 16, 4:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wilmette Public Library
Why Go: The library’s youth program is allowing kids to share their favorite dad memories and turn them into a book. It’s a creative gift to celebrate fatherhood.
Pricing: Free


When/Where: Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave. Friday, June 17, 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Why Go: Ladies, let’s face it, Mark Walhberg is hot and so is Christian Bale (when he’s not playing a crack addict...but we digress). This film boasts two Academy Award winning performances from Bale and Melissa Leo, and was nominated for several others. Oh yeah, and men love this film too. A must see.


When/Where: , 767 W Golf Rd, Des Plaines, Saturday, June 18, 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Why Go: Show Dad how much you love him by leaving the kids with Grandma and taking him to a wine tasting to get loaded. Then pick up a bottle to go and have a romantic evening at home.

Romanian Heritage Festival
When/Where: Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19, noon-10:30 p.m., 7777 N. Caldwell, Niles.
Why Go: See the costume parade, watch Romanian dancing, hear live music, watch the soccer tournament, eat Romanian specialties, including chimney cakes for dessert. Plus, Transylvanian wine and beer. Yes, Transylvania is a real place!
Pricing: Admission $8 adults, $5 seniors and ages 12-15, ages 11 and under free.

Teen Improv Class
When/Where: Saturday June 18 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Wilmette Public Library
Why Go: Let the kids stretch their imaginations and get out of their shells!
