Morton Grove horse stables offer riding lessons, seasonal weekend pony rides

A horse is a horse (of course, of course), but do you know how to ride one? Wondering where to score a pony ride for the little one this weekend? Find answers at the Glen Grove Equestrian Center in Morton Grove.

Located at the corner of Harms and Golf Roads, the facility offers boarding and riding lessons seven days a week, by appointment, year-round (thanks to an indoor heated arena). Glen Grove has four staff instructors and there are 15 facility-owned school horses which are used in lessons. Kids must be at least 7 years old to take lessons.

Private lessons ($40/half hour) and semi-private lessons ($35/half hour) are available. Group lessons - 3 to 5 riders - are offered ($55/hour) for intermediate/advanced riders, as are special advanced jumping lessons ($75/half hour). They do not offer trail rides.

Glen Grove has 98 stalls available for boarding; about 35-40 horses are currently boarded here. In addition, there is a store called Short Stirrups on the premises that sells riding apparel and supplies.

On Saturdays and Sundays, from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m., pony rides are run for kids up to 6 years old, spring through fall, weather permitting. It’s $5.00/per ride. The ponies must be led by an adult through a short path (tip: do not walk behind the ponies).
