Kids Have Good Clean Fun At Post-Parade Celebration

The Niles Park District served 4,000 hot dogs to those who came to the park.

After the Niles Fourth of July parade ended at Grennan Heights Park, thousands of participants--and later spectators--spilled into the park for a huge  community celebration.

The park looked like a kids' paradise, with pony rides, several inflatables to bounce on and rows of carnival games. At the west end, a Niles Fire Department truck sprayed an arc of water into the air so kids could run underneath it and cool off.

The Niles Park District gave away 4,000 hot dogs, according to its executive director, Joe LoVerde.

The hot dogs were donated by Gold Medal Inc., which runs concession stands at park district facilities. The park district buys the buns.

"This is probably one of our biggest turnouts," LoVerde said. "The weather is gorgeous. People are having fun."
