Kids Planner: From Dr. Seuss To ACT Prep to St. Pat's Day

Plan a fun and productive weekend of family activities.


Where/When: 6-9 p.m. Friday March 4, St. John Brebeuf, 8307 N. Harlem, Niles.
Why Go: Entertainment from Hawaii, India and the Philippines and food from Italy, the Philippines, Ireland, Germany, France, Poland and many other places.
Pricing: Free admission, moderate food prices. 

Middle School Fun Night
Where/When: 8-10 p.m. Saturday March 5, Community Center, 100 S. Western, Park Ridge
Why Go: A DJ, entertainment, open gym, swimming, racquetball, all for sixth and seventh graders. No admittance after 8:30 p.m.
Pricing: $5; snacks available for an extra charge. 

All About Game Design
Where/When: Sunday March 6, 2-4 pm, Niles Library, 6960 W. Oakton, Niles. 
Why Go: A game designer from Disney Interactive tells kids in fourth grade and up how they can design games. He'll present a demo of the game Guilty Party, and kids can play. Food and prizes. 
Pricing: Free.

Where/When: Deerfield Public Library, March 2. 
Why Go: Read Across America Day is a national celebration of reading that takes place each year on March 2, Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Celebrate by visiting the Youth Services department, reading a Dr. Seuss book, and doing a drop-in craft.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: Weekly on Sundays at North Suburban Church, Deerfield, at 6:30 p.m.
Why Go: A time for high school students to connect with each other and God. A safe fun place to hang with friends as well as bring friends.
Pricing: Free


Where/When: Lakeview Room at Glenview Park Center, Sunday, March 6 at 2 p.m.
Why Go: The Glenview Concert Band under the direction of Ken Bartosz, Conductor and Greg Wojcik, Assistant Conductor will host a concert performing  a wide-variety of songs.
Pricing: Free.


Where/When: Deerfield Public Library, Saturday, March 5 at 10 a.m.
Why Go: For the first part of this ACT Prep program, students will take a fully-proctored practice ACT test and will learn what to expect in a test-like environment. Students will receive a comprehensive analysis of their performance on the test, detailing individual strengths and weaknesses. Be sure to bring a calculator, two #2 pencils, and wear comfortable clothes. Cell phones will not be allowed.  Please also check out the "Test Strategies" program offered on March 12. Where/When: Northbrook Junior High School, Wednesday, March 2 at 7 p.m.
Why Go: District 28 teachers will share their musical talents during the annual faculty recital.
Pricing: Free


Where/When: Westfield Shoppingtown Old Orchard, Saturday, March 5 at 11:30 a.m.
Why Go: The Westfield Family in partnership with the Skokie Public Library invites families to come celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at Old Orchard. Kids are invited to explore their imaginations during story time, and to get creative with a make-it and take-it craft.
Pricing: Free


Where/When: Central United Methodist Church in Skokie, Saturday, March 5 at 5 p.m.
Why Go: A delicious dinner of authentic spaghetti and Italian favorites all lovingly prepared by Central United Methodist’s very own church ladies. Proceeds from this event will go towards the renovation of our historic Log Cabin, which will be open for all to tour.
Pricing: $10 Adults, $5 Children (ages 2-12)


Where/When: Des Plaines Public Library
Why Go: Parents and caregivers can spend time reading with infants up to 2 years old.
Pricing: Free
