LA Fitness Gets Green Light to Reopen

Morton Grove fitness center reopens today after being closed for health code violations.

After being shut down by the Morton Grove Health Department on Wednesday afternoon due to consistent sanitary issues,  in Morton Grove reopened this morning at 10 a.m.

Village of Morton Grove officials authorized the reopening of the former Bally Total Fitness center, 6821 Dempster St., according to a press release issued by the village.

"The village confirmed the facility had satisfactorily addressed the pending sanitation issues," according to the release.

Unsanitary conditions such as mold and mildew buildup, along with an overall lack of cleanliness began to mount since December 2011, said Morton Grove Pro Tem Village Administrator Ryan Horne. Horne received complaints via phone call and email from club members and witnessed the conditions first-hand upon inspection, which ultimately led to the .

Village officials said they will continue to work with all levels of management at LA Fitness to ensure the building remains in full compliance with building codes and health and safety regulations.
