More than 20 Vendors Expected for Morton Grove Mother's Day Bash

Who would like some honey-nut snacks, chocolate-dipped treats or a few new flowers in your yard?

Morton Grove is turning a new leaf this year.

Following the debut of the Farmers' Market last year comes the arrival of another new Morton Grove tradition: the Mom's Day Pre-Season Sale.

"We see it as a way for the community to come out and celebrate Mother's Day with gifts that honor Mother Nature," said Kristina Otte, the manager of the market. "The emphasis is on produce grown locally, thoughtfully and also economical for the buyer."

There are 20 vendors in this year's market season, which is a 20 percent uptick from last year's vendors.

For the special Mother's Day kick-off, five extra vendors will offer nature photograph notecards, jewelry made by Corina Andronache, natural body care products and gifts from a fair-trade shop in Park Ridge.

"Also, Truck Farm Chicago, a very new local non-profit that actually has a garden on a truck bed, drives around Chicagoland, teaches kids and grown ups about how easy it is to grow your own food," said Otte.

"The Morton Grove Public Library will have story time, books for sale and kid activities; the Morton Grove Historical Museum will have their very popular booth with activities for families, highlighting Moms in Morton Grove's past; and Steve Justman, a Morton Grove original, and a very popular folk singer in the region, will be singing tunes we can all sing along to and telling stories about life in Morton Grove."

The Mother's Day sale is on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 8930 Waukegan Road, next to the Illinois Bone and Joint Institute, and one block north of Dempster Street. The official season starts on June 4 and ends Oct. 15.
