Earlier this year, the committee began putting the wheels in motion to start the project when a resident pitched the idea after seeing a similar “Seven Wonders” project in Mount Prospect.

“We decided to go for it and we began asking residents for nominations of places that they thought made Morton Grove special,” said Community Relations Committee member Janice Cha. “In the end we probably had about 150 people casting their final votes.”

Overall, 19 different parks, businesses and community attractions received multiple nominations, which were then placed on a final ballot for online voting on Oct. 17.

Winners were awarded during Monday night’s Morton Grove Village Board meeting. They included , the Forest Preserve, the , the , the Doughboy Statue in front of the library, the  and the Morton Grove Prairie (located behind ).

“I would say it was successful - the areas that won are things, in one sense, people who’ve been here for a long time tend to take for granted, like harrer park Haupt-Yehl House or the forest preserve, but on the other hand they really are what make this town unique," Cha said. "So in that sense, I think it was a good thing.”
