Niles Man Commutes Downtown By Bike Daily

Why does Michael Lane hate the idea of driving downtown so much? And why does he forego Elston Avenue and go seven miles out of his way to take the lakefront trail? Here's why he does it, summer and winter, 21.5 miles each way.

 

What's harder, to ride 43 miles on a bike daily or sit in traffic on the Kennedy? 

For Michael Lane, it's no contest. He loves biking downtown to work from his home in Niles, and does it almost daily, rain or shine, summer and winter.

While the average commuter may marvel, Lane likewise marvels at how someone could sit in traffic and crawl along breathing fumes while they could be riding through a forest preserve listening to birds or starting their day cruising the lakefront.
