Nine Weeks to Morton Grove Farmers' Market: This Year's Vendors

Written by Kristina Otte, the market manager of the Morton Grove Farmers' Market, this week highlights the vendors at this year's market.

Our MG market has only been around for a year, but apparently we’ve already got great "street cred" in the farmers’ market world! New markets usually begin with only a few vendors, but we were lucky enough last year to have 16 regular vendors.

This year we’re expanding, thanks to positive word-of-mouth and happy vendors talking to their friends. One farmer commented last fall that this was the best first-year market he’d ever been to, and his family has worked farmers’ markets for many years around the area.

Now all we need is good weather! So this week we’d like to highlight our wonderful vendors.

Returning:  Blankenship Orchard (fruits and veggies from SW Michigan), El Gringo Loco (salsas galore), Maier’s Bakery (nothing better in the morning), Super Cup Coffee (goes great with doughnuts), Red Barn Farm (vegetables, flowers), Lifeway Kefir (at festivals dates), Twin Garden Farms (with their famous corn and veggies), Benhart Farm (free-range eggs and amazing meats), The Cheese People (cheeses from Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana), Tibet Farm (Morton Grove grower with Tibetan/Asian vegetables), Joy n Pure (honey-nut snacks from local resident Joyce Chen), and John Bailey Honeys (honeys, beeswax candles).

New in 2011:  Dipped (chocolate-dipped cookies and pretzels from Morton Grove resident Melissa O’Hara), Whole Earth Meats (Halal organic meats and prepared foods), Lyons Orchard (new orchard from South Haven, MI), Market Boy Farm (a third generation farm from western Illinois), LeFlour Bakery (from Edison Park), and Albo Acres (an alpaca farm selling their wools, yarns and sweaters).
