Not Alone: Gay in the Suburbs

LGBT activists make it clear that they exist outside the city, too.

In an effort to combat the idea that gay people only exist in the city, the North Shore Youth Health Service will host "Out in the Suburbs," a free panel from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Northbrook Public Library (1201 Cedar Lane) on June 21. The session aims to increase awareness about gay rights.

“Nobody thinks about gay people in the suburbs,” Amy Skalinder, executive director of Links, told TribLocal. “I think there’s just a societal assumption that they’re in the city.”
