House of Good Shepherd Addresses Needs of Domestic Violence Victims

For over 153 years the House of the Good Shepherd has been a safe haven for women and children facing hardship.  In 1980, they launched their domestic violence program designed to help women and children re-tool their lives so they can reach their full potential and lead meaningful lives with dignity.

Illinois uses Day of the Dead to market Obamacare

In Illinois, painted skulls and merry skeletons will be the new imagery of the zombie-like Obamacare website. Illinois is promoting Obamacare with a massive, statewide outreach program that will include tying the president’s signature policy piece to the Day of the Dead.

Fall back safely: Change your clock and check your smoke detectors

Who Would You Consider Closed-Minded?

Dear Pastor Andy, who is more closed minded? Atheists or theists (generally speaking), and why? Also, how do you define closed minded?

You know, it's interesting, but I have actually found that the ones who are closed-minded are often those who claim to be open-minded. I realize that sounds backwards, but hear me out.

Holiday Photo Op at the Museum

Bill Kruser and Cindy Kuffel will take your portraits at the Historical Museum and email them to you all for one flat fee. You can use the photos for your holiday cards or print it to hang on a wall. The backdrop of the historic Banta House's fireplace, decked with greenery and stockings, makes a unique and special holiday photo this year.

People Helping People: Kol Hadash Brings Order to A Safe Place

At first sight, the storage room of A Safe Place embodied overwhelming disorder and unease, much like the emotions victims may feel when seeking refuge from domestic abuse. But on a recent fall weekend, Kol Hadash Humanistic Congregation members and friends participated in a community service day that brought organization and aid to A Safe Place.
