Perform #26Acts of Kindness To Counter Mayhem

The shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut last Friday left people around the world wondering what they could possibly do to help the victims and their families, or how they could help carry on the legacies of those that were killed. NBC News National and International Correspondent Ann Curry came up with the idea for #26Acts - a movement that encourages people around the world to commit to performing 26 acts of kindness in memory of each of the victims.

"Imagine if everyone could committ to doing one act of kindness for each precious life lost," Curry said to NBC News. "An act of kindness big or small. Are you in?"

The movement initially started as 20 acts of kindness, in honor of the 20 children shot, but quickly progressed into 26 to include the heroic faculty members who also lost their lives, NBC reported. Some are even pushing for the movement to be expanded to 27 or 28 acts of kindness, to include the shooter and his mother.

The acts of kindness performed so far range from people writing nice cards and letters of support to those who paid for strangers' meals at a restaurant - and everything in between.
