Updated: Severe Thunderstorms Expected Tonight for Niles, Morton Grove

Showers and thunderstorms expected before 1 a.m., with severe, large hail and damaging winds.

Updated 6:38 p.m.: The National Weather Service has downgraded its forecast for this evening to a chance of showers before 2 a.m. with possible thunderstorms between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. 

Temperatures are still predicted in the low 70's. 

Earlier:  The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting severe thunderstorms for Niles and Morton Grove this evening, with storms likely ending by 1 a.m.

Showers and storms are expected to be severe, and include heavy rain, frequent lightning, large hail and damaging winds, according to NWS.  

One to two inches of rain are predicted.

The good news is there will be a break from the extremely hot temperatures over the last few days, with the thermometer reaching down to 70 degrees tonight.
