Some of Niles Still Without Power Until Friday

Sections came back on Wednesday night.

Sections of Niles, including the western portion of the village, got electrical power back on Wednesday night, but other sections are still without power.

Sgt. Robert Tornabene of the Niles Police Department noted that when ComEd brings new sections online, other sections might lose power.

"The problem they're running into is that as Com Ed starts putting sections through, others pop," he said. One line was sparking this morning because there was a tree on top of it that workers hadn't been aware of, he added.

A ComEd spokesperson reported at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday that of the 87,000 ComEd customers in the Chicago region still without power, 67,000 of them are in the north suburbs, in the area that includes Niles.

Of those, 90 percent are expected to have power restored by midnight tonight, and the remaining 10 percent will have power restored by midnight Friday, she said.
