The Bounty of an Illinois August: The Morton Grove Farmers’ Market

Check out the upcoming festivities for the end of season!

August, September and October are the most plentiful times at the Morton Grove Farmers’ Market: the produce starts rolling in from the fields, along with fresh baked goods, granola, free-range eggs and meats, chocolate goodies, alpaca wool, honeys, cheeses, coffee and lemonade around the Market. The Market committee has planned a number of festivities around this bounty:

August 27th: Summer Fun Fest, sponsored by Avon. This 2nd annual event will celebrate the end of summer and the start of school with a bounce house, balloon artist, bingo, face painting, henna tattoos, Morton Grove Historical Museum, music from folk-singer Steve Justman and so much more.

September 10th: Scouting Day, celebrating Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Campfire USA. In honor of Sept. 11, we look to our children’s service organizations to showcase the best of our nation, with scouting activities and demonstrations. Kids who come in their uniforms get a special treat at the Welcome Booth that day. Music from Hillions String Band.

Those intrepid home-based chefs who want to enter the home-made pie contest should contact manager@mgfarmersmarket.com if you would like to participate. Winners will be ‘crowned’ at the Market.  Music from Honky Tonk Parade.

October 15thHalloween-themed Costume Contest at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Come in costume, kids and adults alike, and let the fun begin! Music presented by the Niles North and Niles West High Schools.

Thanks to all who are patrons of this community-centered Farmers’ Market! The Market is run by a group of local residents who believe that good food and good friends are essential to a strong community. Volunteers are greatly needed, so contact Kristina Otte, Market Manager, (847)–750-6436 to give a few hours of your time.
