The Votes Are In: Christmas Carol Favorites

Here's what you said were the best Christmas carols in the Classic, Religious, Rock and Most Annoying categories. Hint: Alvin & the Chipmunks came in #2 for Most Annoying Carol. Yes, there was one even More Annoying.

You, the voters, have spoken, and you've chosen some great Christmas and holiday-time music.

Earlier: Love Christmas Carols? Vote for your Favorites

We asked you to vote in four categories, and here's what you chose:

Best Religious Carol

The folk spiritual "Go Tell It On the Mountain" came in at Number 3, with the majestic "O Holy Night" coming in second. Top honors went to the lovely and time-tested "Silent Night."

Best Classic Carol

What, you don't love Rudolph and Frosty and "Jingle Bells" anymore? Voters ignored those tunes, instead choosing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," perhaps inspired by Judy Garland's valiant and nuanced take on it, for Number 3, and "I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas" at Number Two. You voted for "The Christmas Song" (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) for first place. Who could not love that song, with its warm images of home and hearth?

Best Rock Carol

The easy-to-listen-to Jingle Bell Rock came in second, and, not surprisingly, Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" took first. Rock on, Boss!

Most Annoying Carol

With so many deserving nominees, this was a tough category for voters to whittle down. But you did an admirable job, with Paul McCartney's insipid "Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime" and the grating "All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" tying for third place. The pound-your-head-against-the-wall "The Christmas Song" by Alvin and the Chipmunks took second, and "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" came in Most Annoying of all, no doubt boosted by a heavy senior vote.

Enjoy the music of the season!

I agree, Springsteen's tone deaf Dice Clay look alike fans may disagree though.

I was finding that we would get a lot of people guessing forRead More some restaurants (usually when there was a payoff of free pizza), and not very many people entering for other restaurants. Do you think we should bring them back? I'm open to people's opinions. --Pam

Hi Pam, Yes, I thought it would be great if we brought it back. For me personally, whenever I wouldRead More seed the contest on my Twitter timeline, I would immediately go to the site. And if there is an offer of free food even better. It does not even necessarily be a restaurant as it can also be any other type of business, i.e., bakery, retail, gym, car services, etc.
