Too Hot? Niles Urges Use Of Cooling Centers

Niles Mayor Robert Callero issued a broadcast phone call to residents, asking people without air conditioning to come to cooling centers.

 

With temperatures in the 90s and humidity high, Mayor Robert Callero got on the phone yesterday in a message broadcast to Niles residents' telephones.

The essence of the message was essentially:

The Village of Niles has declared a heat alert from Monday, July 2nd through Saturday, July 7th. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-90’s with uncomfortably high humidity.

The and will be open as a cooling center if relief is needed. The Fitness Center is open 5:30am-10:00pm Monday and Tuesday, 8am-10pm Thursday, 5:30am-9pm on Friday and 7am-5pm on weekends. The Senior Center is open 8:30am-5:00pm on weekdays.

If you require a cooling center on Wednesday, July 4th or after hours, please call (847) 588-6500. In an emergency call 911.

Please check on your neighbors with limited access to air conditioning and transportation, such as seniors, the disabled or those who are ill.

Note: The Niles Family Fitness Center and Niles Senior Center are located in the same building in Civic Center Plaza, which is located at the southeast corner of Waukegan Road and Oakton Street, Niles.

The at the northeast corner of that intersection, is also air conditioned and welcomes the public.
